Sibelius 7 has been announced, to start shipping on August 11th.

There are many changes, but two of particular importance to Finale users
are:

1) export of MusicXML is now built-in to Sibelius, so it can now import
and export (previously export was only with the extra-cost Dolet plugin)
so files will be able to handed back and forth between Sibelius and
Finale more easily;

2) note entry will now have allow pitch-first/rhythm-second in addition
to the older rhythm-first/pitch-second that so many Finale users have
found frustrating.

It's now a fully 64-bit program (they say) and comes with an entirely
new soundset to take advantage of that fact.

They've changed their menu structure to the "ribbon" stuff that many
applications are now using, which I'm sure will anger many long-time
Sibelius users in much the same way that many of us got angry over the
past couple versions of Finale when they moved menu items around.

There are a lot of other major changes, and there's a "What's New" pdf
file that people might want to check out:

<http://hub.sibelius.com/download/documentation/pdfs/sibelius700-whatsnew-en.pdf>

I'm not trying to make any converts, I just thought that many people on
this list might be interested in these big changes.

It will be interesting come the Fall when Finale finally gets their new
version out the door, to see whether Finale's become 64-bit and has
other modernization features. I hope so.
