I think this is all one problem, not two. The failure to register
refers, I suspect, to the playback engine used by the Garritan Orchestra
samples. You can safely ignore it, and Finale will work just fine,
except for not playing back through the Garritan Orchestra samples. I
know this, because I have not bothered to update the registration on my
Garritan samples with 2006, and continue to get otherwise full
functionality from Finale. I believe the problem is that in 2k6, the
Garritan samples were played back through a player by someone else
(Native Instruments comes to mind, but I'm not certain of this and don't
have time to look it up), and from 2k7 forward, the samples have been
played through Garritan's Aria player.

There is (or at least there used to be) a patch on the MakeMusic
website, which eliminates the error message. I can't say whether it's
still there, and I can't say whether it will work with Vista, or whether
it permits the samples to playback the the player associated with 2k6. I
can confirm that earlier versions will register quite well.

In a later post you refer to your "main" computer; if you had 2006 on
that, then it might be the most expedient option is to keep the files
you're working with on your laptop on a flash drive, and when you need
playback, do it through the main computer.
