I believe the problem is that in 2k6, the Garritan samples were played back through a player by someone else (Native Instruments comes to mind, but I'm not certain of this and don't have time to look it up), and from 2k7 forward, the samples have been played through Garritan's Aria player. There is (or at least there used to be) a patch on the MakeMusic website, which eliminates the error message. I can't say whether it's still there, and I can't say whether it will work with Vista, or whether it permits the samples to playback the the player associated with 2k6. I can confirm that earlier versions will register quite well.
