John, I agree with you on several levels. I don't do a lot of writing for solo piano, and when I do, I usually use the "make it clear" school of notation. And I hate clutter. So it's nice to know I don't have to pepper the score (not mine, but an intricate and in some ways convoluted, score of a client) with extra "spiders."
