It seems like it reverted to scroll view staff spacing at some point,
because when I finally did hide the staves with cues, the optimization was
not identical to what it was before. (I know because I had to re-do the
spacing of systems on the page.)

It's not a big deal for this piece, because only a half-dozen systems have
hidden staves. But all this is convincing me that making a separate copy
for linked parts is still the way to go for most projects I do.
