There is definitely a bug here, but I can't recreate it from scratch in a consistent way. I'll take it up with MakeMusic and report any progress. (Hah!)
Thanks, Robert for the reminder that I can at least "hide" the offending expressions. I'll save that for when I run out of other options. By the way, I did try again with a brand new preferences file, but no luck there. The issue seems to involve hiding unused staves, staff lists, and possibly the use of spacer staves that only show large time signatures and tempo marks. The weirdest thing is that when I click the "top staff" box for the score list in score view, the tempo mark shows up on an internal staff where it shouldn't be. This is bad, but when I unclick the box, the tempo mark does not go away even after a redraw (VERY BAD). I can only get rid of tempo mark by using the undo command. In other words, toggling an option changes your file perhaps forever, unless you catch the mistake when you can use the undo command. The file was created in Finale 2012b and is now being modified in 2012c.
