Easiest way is to enter an eighth note triplet first - that's what Finale uses
to define the triplet value, then use the arrow key to put the cursor back over
the eighth note you just entered and make it a quarter note. Finale still
believes (correctly) that the value is three eighths in the space of two. Then
move the cursor forward and enter the final eighth note of the triplet. I have
learned to do this quite efficiently and hardly notice it as a problem any
more. As I have thought about it, I can't come up with a way that Finale could
be designed to read your mind and understand triplet entry any other way, so I
am not irritated by this. Artificial intelligence, anyone?
