Easiest way is to enter an eighth note triplet first - that's what Finale uses to define the triplet value, then use the arrow key to put the cursor back over the eighth note you just entered and make it a quarter note. Finale still believes (correctly) that the value is three eighths in the space of two. Then move the cursor forward and enter the final eighth note of the triplet. I have learned to do this quite efficiently and hardly notice it as a problem any more. As I have thought about it, I can't come up with a way that Finale could be designed to read your mind and understand triplet entry any other way, so I am not irritated by this. Artificial intelligence, anyone?
