OK, this is probably a bug that has no fix, and maybe I'm the only person in the world who thinks this is important.
When writing for jazz piano, I usually just put in enough notes to suggest a style and let the piano player use his own comping skills, which are almost always better than anything I would write out. So I depend on the chords in the playback -- not for a realistic comping sound, but just as a check on the harmonic framework to make sure the other instruments are compatible. For a long time, I've been angry at HP because the swing values came out inconsistently. I just figured out what was happening was that my manually entered notes are swinging as they should, but HP ignores the swing values for any chords that are on offbeats. Obviously if I write a chord on an eight note offbeat, that is expected to swing just like notes fully written out. But HP doesn't seem to work that way. I wonder if anybody else has seen this. And I am really hoping there is some easy solution I have overlooked. My solution for now is to edit any of the chord definitions for chords entered on offbeats and make them not play at all. That is better than playing with bad timing. Any better workarounds?
