I know what you are saying about the lack of voice leading of any fashion on the chord playback. But my biggest problem with chords is that I can't ever figure out what bizarre spellings Finale expects of me when I type in chord names. I have been over the documentation several times and I can never make any sense out of it. It seems like each time a start a new project, 90% of the names I try to enter are not accepted. And I cannot figure out if it is a chord that Finale honestly doesn't know or if I just have to put in an extra set of parentheses or something.
I'll often enable MIDI input to see if Finale will tell me the spelling it is insisting on. Sometimes that works. But sometimes the chord spellings it comes up with are horrendous. And so then I try to add my own suffixes to the library, and I can't make any sense out of that either. Basically Finale doesn't adhere to any chord naming system I've ever seen. I have no idea where they came up with their rules. And on top of that, sometimes it insists on changing the enharmonic of the roots, even when I enter them verbatim. There was a time recently where I never could get it to accept a Cb7 chord. It insisted on changing that to a B7, which was absolutely wrong in that context. I suppose that was a case where the Cb didn't match my key signature, but this was in the bridge of a jazz tune, and the Cb was absolutely the right spelling for that passage. Does this happen to anybody else? Is there a way around that?
