I've been using Finale since the 1990s, and I think it's pretty likely I'll
move to Steinberg's product when it's out.

I didn't go to Sibelius because I'm the sort of typographer who likes to
directly control the positioning of everything, and when Sibelius first came
out it was weak on that. Today, both products but especially Finale are
overdue for a complete overhaul anyway. I really like the development team at
Steinberg, and I think they're going to come up with a superior product. I
also think they'll be attentive to the details that I care about (even while
addressing dozens of other things I don't care about).

All my previous Finale works will stay in Finale. I don't really care about
file conversion. For most of my work, when a project is done it's pretty much
done. My end product is a PDF, and I don't generally go back and revisit works
over and over. If something's really old, I might just redo it from scratch in
my current software. I've done that a few times in Finale, either with early
1990s stuff I did in Lime or pieces done in Finale so many versions ago that
making a fresh copy was easier than converting and editing.
