Ryan, I'm using Fin2005 and the percussion map issue is the same as 2001. 
Entering notes while Percussion notation style is applied simply doesn't 
work, I've spent many exasperating hours trying to figure it out.  Maybe 
there is a better method I haven't discovered, but entering notes in 
Standard style definitely does.

Later versions may have simplified percussion entry a lot, but there are so 
many other bugs and issues to contend with.  I upgraded in 2007 and 2009 and 
found myself wasting time trying to figure out and learn workarounds all 
over again, so I've gone back to using 2005 (without embedded parts, which 
aren't helpful for me), because of, well, its simplicity and reliability.
