As I recall that problem is related to the quantization settings. On Windows machines, go to the Midi/Audio menu and at the bottom select Quantization Settings. When the dialog opens up, click "More Settings." I can't remember exactly but I believe you need to change how you have "Soften Syncopations" set. I haven't had a need to adjust it in so long that I can't recall which will stop Finale from changing how the rests are dealt with, but since it's not good as you currently have it, change that setting (uncheck it if it's already checked or vice versa). This is one of the arcane pieces of Finale code which hasn't changed in many versions and has no apparent logical connection to entering the music or moving it around, since quantization should only deal with midi data as it is input and output. But for some reason it affects rests when we least expect it. If it doesn't help, then I'm out of ideas. Good luck! -- David H.
