I generally DON'T use dotted rests, except in 12/8 (and maybe some other 
composed metres). 6/8 definitely not, but 9/8 is a toss-up. If there is a lot 
of syncopation in 9/8, I would go for dotted rests, which clarify the beat. If 
most of it was regular divisions and subdivisions, I would stick with 
quarter-eighth rests.
