Well, look, if you don’t repair your disk, your “new” preferences are probably 
going to get corrupt again. So whether or not you like the proposed solution, 
it is the solution other than fixing your disk which is probably the real 
problem.

General rule of computer use, have a backup. Time machine. Crash plan. A 
bootable clone. Something. Or all the above. 

Running your computer with a filesystem that needs repairs is courting 
disaster……
