I usually just select Adjust Word Extensions, select the little square handle 
on the word extension and hit Delete, but if there are a lot of them, I do this:

Add a sixteenth rest after the last note you want an extension on in the 
correct layer, and make it a grace rest (in Speedy, hit ;) and hide it (in 
Speedy, hit letter O). This makes it take up the least room and not show, so it 
doesn’t affect spacing too badly.
