10.9 can run 64 bit apps. You can check to see what your system is running by 
opening terminal and doing “uname -a”

RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64 means 64 bit is running
RELEASE_I386 i386 is 32 bit.

I’m sorta stuck on 10.9 due to a graphics card issue……i’d have to spend some $$ 
to get a new graphics card.
