If it is actually for children to read, it might be better to use more-or-less 
standard notation. That would be X-head notes with an English text just above 
saying “finger snap”. I usually see this on the 3rd space of the staff when it 
is JUST finger snaps. For the side pat, you should probably put the X-head note 
on a different space (probably lower) to differentiate it, but still with the 
text.

I doubt there is anything truly standard, but if there is, jef chippewa would 
know it!
