Two dotted 8ths (without a tuplet) is always acceptable. According most notation books I've read, the "correct" way to do it with tuplets is two 4trs in the time of three 8ths. However, I have found in practice that two 8ths in the time three 8ths is easier for must musicians to read, so I tend to prefer that if I don't use dotted 8ths.
