I agree that either is acceptable but I find the duplet to be easier for amateurs and less experienced musicians to read -- it indicates clearly at first sight that the rhythm isn't part of the usual compound meter feel of 6/8 and so people seem to be more apt to pay attention to it. -- ***** David H.
