I guess the printer may have some serial and parallel connectors, but I
wouldn't know how to connect it to a modern Mac. It is definitely pre-USB...
It is a network printer, that's the way it is usually connected.

You misunderstood me -- I meant a direct cable (most likely USB) from
your macbook to the printer itself, not involving any network at all.
