I did. I'm real new to this so the only way I knew to get the login file
(which really was missing) was to boot in 9 and make the usr folder visible and 
pasting the
file you sent into a bbedit file and saved with Unix returns.

I get this:
scmarcos% ls /usr/share/init/tcsh
README          completions     login           rc
aliases         environment     logout          tcsh.defaults

Now that I have the login file (thank you very much for that, by the way)
 I (and you) think something is still amiss because whether I
open terminal in default or /bin/tcsh I get this:
Welcome to Darwin!
then: then/endif not found.


I did echo ?shell in tcsh and it said:  /bin/tcsh
The same in the default shell and this:
 then: then/endif not found.
 scmarcos% echo ?shell
echo: No match.
