slang is not in the bindist, since the version in stable contains a severe bug. So, as you guessed, you have to compile it manually for now.

Thanks for the info.

And, of course, I tried "fink install slang", but the source code failed to compile, as fail most of the packages!! Why?
Do you have the Developer Tools for OS X 10.1 installed? You need them to compile stuff. If you indeed have them, then you should tell us the exact error you receive.

Yes, I have it installed. Thats the first thing I did after installing X 10.1. However, I haven't updated it yet to the December 2001 version (using the version that came with 10.1 retail).

In any case, you should build the slang version from unstable for now, as it contains an essential bug fix. To learn how to use a single package from "unstable" in your "stable based environment, please refer to the FAQ. <http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php#unstable>

I followed your suggestion and, after "fink install slang", the compilation failed. Last lines are:
--------
You may also have to run ldconfig to complete the installation.

install -m 644 README NEWS UPGRADE.txt /sw/src/root-slang-1.4.4-5/sw/share/doc/slang/
usage: install [-cps] [-f flags] [-m mode] [-o owner] [-g group] [-l linkflags] [-S stripflags] file1 file2
install [-cps] [-f flags] [-m mode] [-o owner] [-g group] [-l linkflags] [-S stripflags] file1 ... fileN directory
install -pd [-m mode] [-o owner] [-g group] directory ...
### failed, exit code 1
Failed: installing slang-1.4.4-5 failed
---------

A "where -a install make" command returns:
/usr/bin/install
/usr/local/bin/make
/usr/bin/make

It seems "install" is not working, but I've no idea what to do.. :((
Just in case, on my G3 I didn't get the "/usr/local/bin/make" answer to the "where" command above, and I can compile more packages on the G3 (although some compilations fail) than I'm able to on my G4 (where I'm having all these troubles).

Again, thanks in advance.
