I've just posted the following after telling you that slang failed to
compile:
---
A "where -a install make" command returns:
/usr/bin/install
/usr/local/bin/make
/usr/bin/make

It seems "install" is not working, but I've no idea what to do.. :((
Just in case, on my G3 I didn't get the "/usr/local/bin/make" answer
to the "where" command above, and I can compile more packages on the
G3 (although some compilations fail) than I'm able to on my G4 (where
I'm having all these troubles).
-----

Well, I simply renamed the make in /usr/local/bin to make_old, and
then reinstalled slang (version 1.4.4-5, "unstable") and... IT
WORKED!!!

Thanks Max for your suggestion to use the "unstable" version, and also
for teaching me the existence and use of the "where" command in your
answer to another user :)
