Apparently there's a problem with a certain version of Xfree86 running 
twm (the default setup).  You can either install the version in Unstable 
(I think it's 4.2, could be wrong though), or just use fink to install 
another window manager and change the .xinitrc to use that one instead.  
You will be fine then.
