That sounds as if it was a problem with your internet connection. But
wait, what exactly hangs at 40% - always the same file, or do you
mean this happens for any file?

Go to the Preferences, and select the "Shell" tab. There, change the
font encoding ("Zeichenkodierung") to ISO Latin 1. That should help,
at least it works fine for me.
