i too would like to know how these type items work in a consistent way. i tried the same thing (not gnuplot though) and couldn't do it.
i can't remember what i was trying install because i don't use much of the software myself, i install it for professors. (don't get me wrong, Fink is great... but sometimes it seems that there too many ppl that depend on each other's updates to have smooth(er) operations... installs of this nature take long enough... and handling LOTS of macs, i just sometimes have to give up (for a while anyway, until i get the nerve to ask the same questions again). :( thanks for posting.
