Hi everybody, Sorry to bother you again with my frustration over Gnome, but I failed again in setting in up. I'm really desperate now and close to giving up :( (Maybe I should just accept to live without it... :/)
After Masanori Sekino posted that the control-center bug was fixed, I really hoped that it would work this time. To make sure that my install was "clean", I removed all of fink *and* XFree86 again (time is the only thing I have and luckily fink works mostly unattended) and installed new from scratch. I installed the following packages in the order listed below: 1. fink (obviously...) 2. anacron 3. fileutils 4. findutils 5. grep 6. wget 7. xfree86-base 8. xfree86-rootless 9. bundle-gnome Anything wrong with it so far? Well, I let the Gnome installation work over night, and here is what I saw when I get up the next morning: (last lines of terminal output:) /usr/bin/ld: warning -L: directory name (/sw/src/gnome-core-1.4.0.4-12/gnome-core-1.4.0.4/panel/.libs) does not exist /usr/bin/ld: warning multiple definitions of symbol _locale_charset /sw/lib/libintl.dylib(localcharset.lo) definition of _locale_charset /sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib(localcharset.lo) definition of _locale_charset /usr/bin/ld: warning unused multiple definitions of symbol _fnmatch /sw/lib/libgtk.dylib(fnmatch.lo) definition of _fnmatch /usr/lib/libm.dylib(fnmatch.o) unused definition of _fnmatch Making all in gnome-about cc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I/sw/include -I../intl -I../intl -I/sw/include/gnome-1.0 -DNEED_GNOMESUPPORT_H -I/sw/lib/gnome-libs/include -I/sw/include -I/sw/include/glib-1.2 -I/sw/lib/glib/include -I/sw/include/orbit-1.0 -I/sw/include/gtk-1.2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -DGNOMELOCALEDIR=\""/sw/share/locale\"" -no-cpp-precomp -I/sw/include -I/sw/include/gtk-1.2 -I/sw/include/glib-1.2 -I/sw/lib/glib/include -I/usr/X11R6/include -g -O2 -Wall -Wunused -c gnome-about.c gnome-about.c:13: gdk-pixbuf/gdk-pixbuf.h: No such file or directory gnome-about.c:14: gdk-pixbuf/gnome-canvas-pixbuf.h: No such file or directory make[2]: *** [gnome-about.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2 ### OLD_PO_FILE_INPUT=yes failed, exit code 2 Failed: compiling gnome-core-1.4.0.4-12 failed ----- If anybody could help me I would greatly appreciate it. I don't see what I am doing wrong -- I hardly see any chance of doing anything wrong in the installation process, in theory it really seems to be simple. But I just cannot make it work... As stated above, I started with a clean fink install, so there should be nothing interfering. My XFree86 installation works fine with OroborOSX, which I didn't remove (but from what I understand, this cannot possibly interfere either...) Anything else I installed with fink previously was success at first try; I really want to thank everybody working for this project. I know that it is not easy and appreciate the time and effort that people spend to make fink possible.
