Ding Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner! Spaces not only in the drive names but also in the name of my home directory. I removed those (removing all of them was necessary), redirected Netinfo Manager to the renamed home directory, the setenv warning went away and I'm running fink update-all as I type. It looks like libtiff has compiled and we've moved on. I added to the subject line of the message to facilitate future searches, since you guys were able to fix two problems in one thread!
