I'm trying to install scilab 2.6 on Mac OS X 10.1 (dev-environment and
Xfree86 4.2 is installed)

With "sudo fink install scilab", the download

curl -L -O
ftp://ftp.inria.fr/INRIA/Projects/Meta2/Scilab/distributions/scilab-2.6.src.
tar.gz

starts and then just hangs there, until it times out. I tried this
repeatedly - same result.

It is possible to download scilab-2.6.src.tar.gz directly from the scilab
site! So the file is there ! But then, following the instructions found in
http://homepage.mac.com/persquare/scilab.html, I cannot ''configure'' the
make -- error message is that there is no version for Darwin 5.3.

Does somebody know what's wrong with the download from INRIA?

Alternatively, how could I generate Scilab from the sources that I have? Is
it possible to have fink use sources that are already on my machine?

With best regards,

Wolfgang Polifke
