I guess I don't see that. Why should there be "A" winner. Let's face it. There are different operating systems because people need different things. If you like games, and want major software/hardware compatibility, you probably pick windows. If you want stable secure software and a platform driven by a quest for the same, you probably go with *NIX Apple's OS shift marks a major re-thinking in that you now have the stability and security WITH the snazzy bells and whistles. You don't have to be a power user but you CAN be. You also still need to be willing to pay a little more for your hardware. Yes, OS X appeals to a LOT of people, both longtime Mac users AND the Linux/BSD/Unix crowd. But no single operating system will BE the answer for all people, anymore than any single auto maker will ever produce the ONE car that fits everyone's needs. In 1987, a friend of mine pulled me aside to explain why the "PC" was going to put Apple out of business. In 1995, another friend told me about this new operating system call Linux that was going to take the world by storm. They also told me about this company called AMD that had a "586" chip that would put intel out of business. Frankly, I hope none of them "win". The competition is what keeps the industry moving forward. Imagine a world with only microsoft. We'd all still be running Windows 95, wouldn't we?
