Hello! I am very excited about Fink, but I've had no end of trouble getting it to work. Here's the saga so far.
I downloaded it and installed it fine. I went to download the GIMP, and it didn't work. It couldn't find a file. No problem, I know how to pull it down myself. I even figured out where to put it. But, I have no experience installing things by hand. So, I tried using Fink to pull the components down one at a time. I came closer, but then I needed cc or gcc. Well, no problem, I can pull down gcc. But I can't install it. Then, reading the archives of this list, I learned about "which," and discovered that I had cc as well. But I still can't get it to work. I also discovered in the archives of this list that I can download Apple developers tools. So I tried that, but after getting an account and digging up the tools disk image, the server was not found. So, I really have tried, but I've been stymied at every turn. I must be incredibly close, but I've done everything I know how. Any advice, or just encouragement, would be appreciated.
