Victor,

I am somewhat confused by your message:

You say you did a fink selfupdate-cvs, and in your later message you
announce that you intend to go back from unstable to stable. But your
xfree86 version is not the one from the latest unstable cvs. It is much
older. You have 4.1.99 from June 2001, and the version of the X server
from the xfree86-rootless-4.2.0-2 package is 4.2.0 from 18 January 2002.

In addition, your fvwm2 looks for the shared library libXinerama.1.dylib
which AFAIK only existed for a short while in a previous version of the
xfree86-base package.

What versions of xfree86-base, xfree86-rootless and fvwm2 do you have
isntalled? Or do you have system-xfree86 and an (older) self-installed
version of xfree?

This is old.

This is harmless. You can regenerate a .Xauthority file using the command

    xauth generate :0 .

but you have to do this while an X server is running, so you have to get
this working first.

Are you sure that your ~/.Xmodmap contains valid xmodmap commands?

It seems this version of fvwm2 was built on a different system where
this library existed. Did you compile it yourself?

IMHO you should be fine if you rebuild xfree86-base, xfree86-rootless
and fvwm2 from their latest cvs versions in unstable.
