Hmm.. er...

I think you'd want to follow the advice of Benjamin. It seems like XFree86 is not properly or completely installed (dont take my words as correct, though).

I think you should read

http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/x11/index.php

And then go and download FinkCommander from www.versiontracker.com, which will give you a GUI to run Fink,a nd youll be able to see bettwer what you want to install and what is already installed.

This is what I get when I type what you asked me to...

Welcome to Darwin!
[localhost:~] curibe% startx -- -quartz

xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): no
server "/usr/X11R6/bin/X" in PATH

Use the -- option, or make sure that /usr/X11R6/bin is
in your path and
that "/usr/X11R6/bin/X" is a program or a link to the
right type of server
for your display. Possible server names include:

XFree86 XFree86 displays
XDarwin Darwin/Mac OS X IOKit displays
XDarwinQuartz Mac OS X Quartz displays
XDarwinStartup Auto-select between XDarwin and
XDarwinQuartz

giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable
to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
[localhost:~] curibe%

What does this mean?

thanks for the help!

I think you might want to install "XFree86
rootless". XDarwin will be

On the other hand, since you installed KDE, which
from what I've seen is
a desktop environment, you'll probably want to run
XFree86 in its
non-rootless mode (whatever that is called), because
that way you'll get
a desktop. Would someone please fill in this info?

Try this:

type

startx -- -quartz

in the terminal and tell me what happens..

First of all I'd like to thank, Paul, Abhishake,
Martin, and Mike for the help thus far!!! Thank
you
all for help! I'm in your debt!

I'm running mac OS X.
I've installed Fink.
I've installed KDE.
I've created the .xinitrc file.

Now I need to run XDarwin... Which, according to
my
web research is NOT the Darwin (terminal) that
came
with Mac OS X.
Or is it?
Do I have to buy (and install) XDarwin
(www.xdarwin.com for $24.95) in order to run KDE?
Is XDarwin the only way to go?
