The linux or sun JDK binaries will *not* work on MacOSX.  JDK 1.4 should be
coming in Jaguar, I'm not sure if Apple plans on releasing a 1.4 version for
10.1, but I doubt it.

Porting the JDK would be a huge, huge task, larger than probably anything
that's been done in fink so far, most likely.  The JDK has a very strange and
esoteric build system, and makes a lot of assumptions about the compiler used.
