I am sorry to hear that you have such a hard time doing this. Now that you started over, we can start also from the very first step. First of all, make sure that that you have the latest version of Jaguar (there has been an update- 10.2.1 almost 1 month ago). I don't know if you want to be able to run system 9, but I would recommend installing that too. You might want to turn off any anti-virus programs that you have running too. Once you have 10.2.1 installed, also install the Developer Tools (it should have come with your Jaguar disks). Again, get the August Update (the one shipped with Jaguar is July version). You can get that from VersionTracker.com (make sure that you select the OS X tab to get to OS X section). Ok, now you are ready to install Fink from scratch. Follow the instruction on http://fink.sourceforge.net/news/jag-bootstrap.php exactly. I do this while I log into my account (I am the administrator); you don't have to log in as the root to do so. During Fink installation, it will ask you a few questions. One of them will be regarding whether or not you want to use the root account when you use Fink or use the 'sudo' command (something like that). I would choose 'use sudo command'. The other one is about Firewall. I just said "yes" for passive mode (or passive transfer; don't remember exactly what it said). That's it. After a few hours of compiling, you should have a functional Fink. Be sure to follow the instruction exactly and all the way to the end. Good luck.
