I installed kdebase3-ssl (binaries - using apt-get) yesterday on 10.2.2 with no
problems. Was up and running.
Even installed AbiWord and Xemacs without problems. Desktop opened and was functional.

Then later tried to install KWord (used fink install, instead of apt-get).

After install completed, tried to open desktop with X icon in dock (fullscreen) and
received the following error:
Couldn't start ksmserver. Check your installation.

I checked /sw/bin - didn't find KWord and fink list didn't show it as installed.
But I did notice that the kdelibs3-ssl was set at (i) and kdelibs3-ssl-de (which I
wasn't aware was installed) was set as i, and kdebase3-ssl set to (i) and
kdebase3-ssl-dev set to i.

Decided to (fink) remove what I could, but could only remove kdebase3-ssl, the other
attempts said no compatible version, or couldn't remove because of dependencies.

Then I installed entire kde-bundle-ssl from apt-get binaries.
Received errors about KOffice and bundle-ssl config

ran these individually from fink install - no errors.

Wiped my ~/.xinitrc file to see if XDarwin would load with twm only - Success.

Then recreated ~/.xinitrc
tried to restart KDE - same error as before (Couldnt' connect to ksmserver)

Modified ~/.xinitrc file
from : /sw/bin/startkde
to: /swl/bin/startkde >/tmp/kde.log 2>&1

tried to restart KDE - same error.

Checked the kde.log file
found errors such as:

I can't seem to cleanly remove KDE or KWord as my earlier attempts seem to have failed.
However, if some one could give me instructions on how to do this I'm confident that
if I install the bundle from binaries, it should work fine - as XDarwin is running
fine and the first base install of KDE worked fine as well.

Thanks for your help.

Elaine
