If you get crashes during build time, something deeper is going on, and is likely totally unrelated to KDE (other than the fact that they tend to push the C++ compiler a little harder than most C++ code does).

I'm not sure where to point you for help debugging, it sounds like you may have a hardware issue. Those kinds of crashes shouldn't be happening...
