The August dev tools are a set of patches to the July dev tools (the CD distributed with the Jaguar CD distribution) and can't be installed without them already being in there (can they??). If I remember, the August tools patch the gcc compiler.I've seen these crashes happening when folks install the August tools on top of the non-jaguar devtools. August is NOT a full tool set, it is a small update to the july (jaguar) tools. Install the July devtools. One thought: Has one of the people having these crashes tried to set the stacksize to a higher value, "limit stack 2000" or something like that? I remember some stacksize related crashes that looked like this. OTOH, the places where these crashes here happened didn't look like very stack-intensive. Well, just something to check...Well I suspected this so I set "limit stacksize unlimited" in the terminal window before running a compilation of koffice a week or so ago. It still gave a segmentation fault and in the same place. I can try it with this one. Why would kde builds be the only things to hit a hardware problem? Shouldn't there be other visible problems with the machine?
BEFORE I installed the August patch (but with the original July CD installed) I was able to compile everything. However, kmail was busted and could not read mail. AFTER I installed the August patch I recompiled kmail and, amazingly, it now works. But I can't re-compile koffice and now kdelibs3-ssl.
