Have you checked the /sw/var/mysql directory, it's probably still there since dpkg dies in the post-installation phase. My guess (and yours too IIRC) is that it's a permissions issue -- the whole dir should be owned by mysql/mysql.chown: /sw/var/mysql/mysql: No such file or directory chown: /sw/var/mysql/test: No such file or directory dpkg: error processing mysql (--install): subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
pc-80-193-231-14-ca:~% ls -l /sw/var/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 3 root admin 102 Nov 1 23:27 cache/
drwxr-xr-x 3 root admin 102 Nov 1 23:29 db/
drwxr-xr-x 4 root admin 136 Nov 1 23:27 lib/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root admin 68 Nov 1 22:50 log/
drwx------ 2 mysql admin 68 Nov 28 12:39 mysql/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root admin 68 Nov 1 22:50 run/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root admin 68 Nov 1 22:50 spool/
If I manually chown the /sw/var/mysql directory to mysql:mysql and re-run the installation that doesn't appear to help. Creating the directories manually before running the installation (which leaves them owned by root:admin) doesn't help either. Even making the /sw/var/mysql directory world-writeable doesn't appear to help!Try creating the directories manually and see if that works.
