First,
Would you please comment on the ease and feasibility of using an OS X
machine to develop software for linux.

Let me explain why I ask. I'm a novice developer of scientific software.
I'm interested in using OS X as my development environment for a number
of reasons that probably arent very interesting to you, (but really its
because i want to watch dvd's when i'm not developing and that's a big
hassle and maybe not even legal on linux). However, I have to use a linux
cluster for all of my calculations.

So, I want to use an OS-X machine, but the software I write has to be able
to compile and run on other linux machines.

Second,
i would like to clarify my understanding of what fink is.
I've read through the web sight, and there, it seems like 'fink' is used
with several different meanings.

My understaning is this:
The 'fink project' develops and maintains the 'fink distribution'.
The 'fink distribution' includes the 'fink program' as well as binaries
and sources for open source software that has been ported by the 'fink
project' to OS X.
The 'fink program' is a collection of utilities for managing (and
compiling?) software in the 'fink distribution'.
Would someone confirm or correct that for me?

Thanks -
Brian Austin
