If you start on 10.1, you will wind up having to update a fair number of
packages--some of which will require you to download new sources.

I don't think the base package setup is that big, but I don't know the
exact figure.  However, I can give you an estimate, based on the size of
the binary installers:

0.4.1:  12 Megs
0.5.0a: 10.7 Megs
