You shouldn't try to install xfree86-base when you installed xfree86 manually. Install the placeholder package system-xfree86 instead.Setting up xfree86-base (4.2.1.1-3) ... ERROR: /etc/X11 exists, but is not a symlink to /usr/X11R6/etc.
