Or, if you don't want to use anything other than TeX and dependencies,
you can just add the relevant .info and .patch files to your local tree
as per:

If you already have TeX installed, the update-all should take care of
that.  In this case, you may need to remove some obsolete packages whose
functionality has been subsumed into the main tetex packages.

This refers to the case if you add non-standard trees.  If you are just
enabling unstable, then there shouldn't be any problems.
