Thanks for the replies on my previous question. I ran "fink selfupdate-cvs" and I think " fink update-all". Then I ran "fink install gimp". It ran for what seemed like hours. I thought this would work but it failed and complained about the fact that I have and existing X11 installation. The message suggested that I install "system-xfree86 resp. system-xtools" to make it work.
You have an existing X11 installation in /usr/X11R6 and /etc/X11.
This package refuses to overwrite these. Remove them, then tell Fink to
install xfree86-base again. (The package won't be recompiled.) If you want
to keep your X11 installation, install system-xfree86 resp. system-xtools
instead to make this known to Fink's package system.
The closest thing to that I could find was "system-xfree86" I started to install it and it failed saying I had a partial installation of X11. X11 was the first think I installed and it works! Also it mentions SDK.

- Apple X11 SDK is missing
** ERROR! **
It appears you have a partially-installed version of the Apple X11
release. To use Apple's X11 with Fink, you must download both the
main X11 installer, as well as the SDK (there are actually 2 separate
downloads for the Apple X11 release). Please go to
http://www.apple.com/macosx/x11/ and download and install the missing
files, and re-attempt your install of system-xfree86.
Is SDK the Apple Developer Tools package released in Dec 2002? (I have downloaded and installed) There is nothing on the ADC site that is called SDK that seems to have anything to do with OSX. I have downloaded everything from the X11 page that looks current but I see nothing labeled SDK either. I feel like I am not seeing something really obvious. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks, Mark
.
