The "bill of materials" is a file that holds the list of what's in the
package (.pkg) file.

This message came up before, and I didn't see an answer posted.  The first
thing that I'd try is to check in /Library/Receipts and look for the fink
package remnant, e.g. /Library/Receipts/Fink\ 0.5.2\ Installer.pkg .  Delete
(or rename) it and try again.
