I am having problems starting Gnome.

I have installed
       xfree86-base
       xfree86-rootless
       gnome-libs

Without creating the ~/.xinitrc file, XDarwin will start and I get the standard xterm windows.

I created ~/.xinitrc and tired the sample commands from the Dcoumentation, Running X11 - 4 Starting XFree86, 4.3 The .xinitrc File:

source /sw/bin/init.sh
exec gnome-session

But, the X crashes. I then copied /private/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc to ~/.xinitrc and added the line, source /sw/bin/init.sh on line 4 of the file, and then exec gnome-session at the end.

XDarwin starts up, but goes into the twm window manager with xterm windows and clock, but no Gnome.

I tried to comment out out the twm & line, but I just get the xterm windows and clock, but no window manager at all.

Lastly, I commented out all of the lines after # start some nice programs and added only:
exec gnome-session

But, XDarwin crashed.

What am I doing wrong?

Greg
