Is ESound naturally twitchy, or is it just me? I have version 0.2.28-1 in both Fink & the wife's Linux box. In both machines, it seems to be a real crapshoot as to whether a given program will find sound support on any given day. For example, most days FreeCiv under Fink comes up w/ sound, but some days it reports that sound is improperly configured. FreeCiv under Red Hat 8.0 doesn't give an error message, but seldom makes a noise. I haven't yet found the pattern that would seem to be a predictor of this. It can't be FreeCiv; other programs on Red Hat have the same issue - Gnome CD player is awful quiet, though Gnome Sound prefs says it finds the card okeh & will play the test sound when asked. Any advice/enlightenment?
