Apt-get only knows about binaries from the binary distribution or those you
have built on your machine. Both XFree86-4.3 (the xfree86 package) and
xfree86-*-threaded (4.2 with threading) are in unstable, and must be built
from source.

You will definitely have to remove Apple's X11:

Subject: [Fink-beginners] Installing xfree86 with thread support.

I want to install xfree86 with thread support so I can watch SVCDs in Xine,
but is 'fink install xfree86' the only way to do this? Is it possible to
install from binary with 'apt-get install xfree86'? My machine isn't that
fast so it takes ages to compile anything. I've copied the files from the
unstable to local dists but apt-get doesn't seem to work.

I also have Apple's X11 installed. Is it necessary to uninstall this to
install xfree86, and if so how?

Thanks,

Neil
