It sounds like you broke your Development Tools somehow--that's where
you get the C compiler and cvs command.  Try reinstalling them, first of
all.


The "old and fractured" error message is for the Fink system-xfree86
placeholder package, not your own X11 installation.


The "node for system-xfree86 exists" error is in the FAQ:
