The locale error is harmless. When you say you tried to run gabber from "the terminal", do you mean an X terminal or the Apple Terminal? If the latter, you need to
1) run X11 2) run the command "setenv DISPLAY :0" in the Terminal before you run any X apps. -- Alexander K.
